The Moomba

The bar next to the Mac’s where we got our free ice cream during the “Homage To Newton” tour. Was on some photo taking adventure to take pictures of big blank walls during the beginning of the june holidays. The colour scheme and design suits “The Moomba” name and the wall and the palm trees…

This piece depicts on of the most memorable lines that I have from Eminem. From the great song “I’m Back”:

I take each individual degenerate's head and reach into it
just to see if he's influenced by me if he listens to music
And if he feeds into this sh*t he's an innocent victim
and becomes a puppet on the string of my tennis shoe  

I spent a lot of time thinking about the Slim Shady character design. He described himself as some insane skinny mummy but I decided to do a grim reaper like thing because the darkness would reflect the beats in the song. The two characters (stringed up hamster (making another appearance) and Slim) are on the brain of the skull hamster because it’s the mind of the listener that makes something of the songs, so yeah.

Bus

This bus was taken opposite the City Hall MRT bus station. The song that inspired this was “Bonnie and Clyde 97′”. The song’s about Slim Shady after murdering his wife, Kim. He caught her in their house sexing up another man and went stir crazy, killing him. After that, in “Kim”, the “Volume 2″ of Bonnie and Clyde 97, he brought her to some ulu place and slit her throat. He came home to get his baby daughter and they drove to a nearby dock and threw her into the sea. 

At first I wanted a baby girl there in front of the skull hamster, then decided it wasn’t right and swapped him to holding a beer bottle. He’s still stained with his wife’s blood and the tyres look as if he ran over her a couple of times (Remember Jermaine Dupree in Can-I-Bitch) and slit her throat so bad that he could stick it on the hood. The line “Bleed B*tch Bleed” on the car side came from “Kim”, one of the most significant lines there.

P.S. After the song a lot of people hated Kim. O.o

Jim Beam

along the back of Orchard… near Killiney, where the old post office is.

This was my most straight forward piece. It’s only in this work that the hamster character appears in its original form instead of the bball jersey and skull. With its back facing the road, it’s supposed to show how faceless and small the listener is and how big the songs are in his mind. The letters are boxed, getting smaller towards the back, with lines and dots in black and white to make it seem like deep and heavy beats and rhythms. 

I came up with the greenish yellow steroid pumped rabbit in my sketchbook. It looks sick with all the ego-chasing and is finally put down by better rap, which is why it’s all gunned down and stuff. The skull hamster sits on a leather chair, with jim beam in one hand and a sawn off in the other in a “You Can’t Touch Me” sort of way… But this is all from the song, it’s not in real life.

The above illustrates a song that inspired me to do this work. Eminem’s diss on Cannibis “Can-I-Bitch”.

Ahh… before I thought of doing the graffiti stuff I wanted to draw one volume manga. That was cos I was into manga and fanfics -aka naruto- which I’m still a bit into. This whole year I haven’t drawn anything properly. So it took a lot of time to think about what should be drawn. Hmm if there’s a need, there are only 2 characters here (the one with the fan of kunai and the one in the background are the real ones in the current frame)
